Product Overview
Mediant Software Session Border Controllers (SBC) - Cloud (CE), Virtual (VE) and Server (SE) Editions(hereafter referred to as device) are pure-software products, enabling connectivity and security between Enterprises' and Service Providers’ VoIP networks. This software-based SBC product line includes the following product variants:

Server Edition (SE) SBC: x86 server-based platform, which must be installed on a server that complies to the specified hardware requirements (see Technical Specifications or refer to the Mediant Server Edition SBC Installation Manual). |

Virtual Edition (VE) SBC: Installed and hosted in a virtual machine environment that complies to specified requirements (see Technical Specifications or refer to the Mediant Virtual Edition SBC Installation Manual). |

Cloud Edition (CE) SBC: Installed and hosted in a cloud computing environment. The CE SBC is composed of two component types:

Signaling Component (SC): The SC handles all SIP signaling traffic. It also determines which Media Component (see below) handles the specific media traffic, which is based on load balancing between the Media Components.

Media Components (MC): The MCs handle all media traffic, including transcoding functionality. Up to 21 MCs can be used in the deployed CE. |
The Stack Manager tool is provided as part of the solution. It implements complete lifecycle management of the CE stack, including initial deployment, manual and automatic scaling, healing and service teardown. For information on installation, refer to the Mediant Cloud Edition SBC Installation Manual.
These devices provide perimeter defense for protecting companies from malicious VoIP attacks; voice and signaling mediation and normalization for allowing the connection of any IP-PBX to any Service Provider; and service assurance for service quality and manageability. The device offers call "survivability", ensuring service continuity to enterprises served by a centralized SIP-based IP-Centrex server or branch offices of distributed enterprises. Survivability functionality enables internal office communication between SIP clients in the case of disconnection from the centralized SIP IP-Centrex server or IP-PBX.
The device offers multiple local and remote management platforms, including HTTP/S-based Web server, command-line interface (CLI), and SNMP.
